Why I became a Makeup Artist
Something always bothered me about the bridal makeup world:
The same copy-paste looks applied to every face, heavy and cakey, with the bride getting lost behind it all.
I knew I wanted to do it differently.
I believe makeup should look like skin - enhancing what's already there, not covering it up. Bringing out the most beautiful version of you.
Here's how I went from being the designated makeup artist for friends and family growing up, to self-taught makeup content creator, to becoming Melbourne's go-to bridal makeup artist
And why taking the leap was the best decision I ever made…
Hi, I'm Anastasia. Originally from Germany, I moved across the world to Australia when I was just 18 years old. What was supposed to be a gap year turned into me still living here 8 years later.
Read on to find out how I went from starting my life from scratch in a new country to doing what I love every single day.
How it all started
It started with YouTube. I was glued to every OG beauty guru I could find, watching tutorials and buying whatever they recommended (why did we all religiously collect EOS lip balms?!).
Over the years, I became the go-to person for family and friends needing their makeup done. Every event, every night out, every "Can you please do my makeup for tonight?" - I loved every second of it.
Eventually, I started creating content on social media myself, teaching people about products and techniques I had perfected over the years. What I didn't realise was that I was quietly building years of real experience that would eventually become my career.
The leap
Here's the truth: I'm a perfectionist. And for a long time, that perfectionism held me back.
I told myself that until I was as good as the best MUA I could find online, I had no business calling myself one. But the people around me didn't see it that way - friends, family, and followers kept telling me the same thing: just do it.
So when I moved from Sydney to Melbourne - new city, fresh start - I left my old job behind and went all in.
It's been the best decision I've ever made, and I am so grateful I get to call this my job.
What I do & why I love it
I believe makeup should look skin-like - not like a thick layer sitting on top of it. It should enhance what's already there, not cover it up.
That's why I specialise in long-lasting soft glam that enhances your natural features, photographs beautifully, and lasts through every emotion on your big day. The best bridal makeup shouldn't feel like a mask. It should bring out the most confident, beautiful version of you.
That said, I love a full glam moment too, and I'll always be honest with you about what will suit you best. Someone with deeper, more dramatic features can carry a smoky eye effortlessly in a way that might feel too heavy on someone fairer.
My job is to understand your face - and create something perfectly tailored to it.
What working with me looks like
I will go above and beyond.
Yes, I'll do your makeup - but I'll also help with whatever else the morning throws at us. I've glued jewellery to skin, steamed creases out of dresses, and buttoned up bridal gowns with two minutes to spare. Wedding mornings can be chaotic, and I'll make sure yours feels easy and calm when the nerves start to amp up.
You'll receive a customised morning schedule from me in the days before your wedding, and I'll communicate quickly and consistently throughout - I'm not the kind of person who ghosts you and shows up on the day. I'll arrive on time (the German in me simply won't allow otherwise), keep things running smoothly, and bring enough good energy to light up the whole room.
Brides I've worked with always say they felt completely at ease with me - and that's exactly the feeling I'm going for.
My promise to you
I am a perfectionist, and on your wedding day, that works entirely in your favour.
If the lashes aren't sitting right, we redo them. If there's a speck of mascara on your lid, it's gone. And if there's anything you want changed - please tell me. No hurt feelings, no awkwardness.
This is your day, and my one job is to make sure you feel 100% beautiful and confident in your makeup.
My German work ethic is strong when I care about something.
And I care about this - deeply.
A little more about me
When I'm not doing makeup, you'll probably find me shopping, at the gym, or on a tennis court. I only recently picked up tennis, and I'm currently taking lessons - proof that it's never too late to start a new hobby.
I'm also a huge country music fan - and there's a 99% chance I'll be listening to it on my way to your wedding venue. If you're a country music lover too, do yourself a favour and don't mention it, or I probably won't shut up about it. You've been warned!
And lastly, I love creating content. Whenever I travel, I film it - because in my opinion, a holiday vlog is the best memory you can make of a trip.
Love, Anastasia xx
